CATSKILL — An accident on Saturday in the Catskill Walmart parking lot ended with the arrest of an Acra man, police said.
Catskill police and Town of Catskill Ambulance were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot at 30 Catskill Commons at 11:23 a.m. for a reported accident, according to Greene County 911.
A car struck two parked cars, according to Catskill Police Lt. Ron Frascello.
The driver, Rudy Helmedach, 31, was charged under Leandra’s Law with aggravated DWI, a felony, because there was a 4-year-old child in the vehicle, police said. He was also charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors. Police also found narcotics in the vehicle, Frascello said.
Helmedach was arraigned in Catskill Village Court and released, according to police. He’s scheduled to appear again April 1.
