CATSKILL — A man and a woman were uninjured Wednesday morning after their car struck a utility pole in Catskill, Capt. Tracey Quinn of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said.

The unidentified male driver, and his unidentified female passenger, both 30, were driving north on Route 9W, just south of West Bridge Street, when the Toyota left the road and crashed into a utility pole, Quinn said. The force of the crash snapped the pole.

The driver told police that he fell asleep, Quinn said.

At about 5:33 a.m., Greene County 911 sent Catskill Fire Company and Catskill Ambulance to the scene after receiving reports of the accident.

Both of the car’s occupants were able to get out of the vehicle before crews arrived. Neither was injured, Quinn said.

Central Hudson Gas and Electric was requested to the scene to replace the pole.

The car was towed away

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
