Q: How did you fall in love with your sport?
A: I worked as a state lifeguard and swam constantly. My co-workers convinced me to join the TH swim team. The practices were extremely hard, but I always felt like I was progressing. After the first swim meet, I fell in love with the sport.
Q What’s your favorite moment as an athlete in that sport?
Funny Answer: My favorite moment was when I accidentally swam an extra lap in the 500 yard freestyle and Coach Russo had to tap my head and tell me I was already done with the race.
Serious Answer: After the first swim meet when my relay team made a two lap deficit comeback and won the meet by one point.
Q: What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
A: My favorite sports moment as a fan was getting to see my teammate Trevor New, break the long jump record after working so hard to achieve this goal.
Q: What athlete do you look up to the most and why?
A: The athlete I look up to is Cody Miller. When I first saw him swim in the 2016 Olympics I noticed he had the same condition that I do, pectus excavatum, making breathing harder. It proved to me that no obstacle is too big to overcome.
Q: Best advice you’ve received from a coach, mentor or teammate in your sport?
A: The best advice I received from Coach Russo was to not breathe while swimming which made me immensely faster.
