Thanks to everyone who participated in the Thunder in the Mountains Car Show July 23 that was hosted by the West Kill/Lexington Community Improvement Association at the Lexington Municipal Building. There were 56 beautiful vehicles and congratulations to the trophy and raffle winners. Thanks to all who donated the beautiful baskets for the raffle and all the volunteers who made this event such a success.

The dinner church that was held at the Lexington/West Kill UMC fellowship hall on July 22 was lovely. Nice attendance and everyone enjoyed soup, salad, sandwiches and desserts. There was scripture reading, short message and hymn singing. Another dinner church will be held in the future.

Susan Simpfenderfer was the Certified Lay Minister at Sunday worship service in the Methodist Church in West Kill on July 24. Pastor Susan’s sermons are always inspiring.

There will be a joint service with Lexington/West Kill, Kaaterskill and East Jewett UMCs at 10 a.m. July 31 under the pavilion in Lexington. A picnic covered dish lunch will follow after the service. Everyone welcome.

Next Lexington Farmers Market will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 30 under the pavilion in Lexington, 3542 Route 42. As always there will be local vendors with local produce, meats, cheeses, mushrooms, baked goods and more.

On the last Fridays (July 29) and Saturdays (July 30) of each month the Hunter Public Library, 7965 Main St., has a book sale. Fill a paper bag with books for $5. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.

The 68th Greene County Youth Fair hosted by the Greene County Agricultural Society and Angelo Canna Town Park, Cairo, will be held July 28 through July 31. Free admission and opening ceremony is 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The theme this year is the Wild West. There will be animals, entertainment, exhibits, food, vendors and fun for everyone. Closing ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. July 31.

Lexington/West Kill UMC Administrative Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Lexington church hall.

At 1 p.m. at the Lexington Municipal Building will be the dedication of the Commemorative Brick Garden and plaque honoring Town of Lexington Historian Karen Deeter. Light refreshments will be available under the pavilion following the dedication. Please join us in remembering Karen and dedicating the beautiful Brick Garden.

The Hunter Fire Company Block Party being held at the Hunter Firehouse, 17 Bridge St., will begin at 3 p.m. and go until 10 p.m. with food, drinks, prizes, live music, games, bouncy house, mechanical bull, climbing wall, slide, dunk tank, air brush tattoos and more. DJ Frankieokie from 3–6 p.m.; Greene Room Players “Songbirds” from 6–7 p.m. and The Lost Cowboys Band from 7–10 p.m. Fun for the whole family.

Want some Brooks Chicken Barbecue? That’s what they’ll be serving at the Jewett Firehouse, Route 17 from 4:30–7:30 p.m. until chicken is sold out. Take out only. Dinners include half a chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, coleslaw, roll and Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie for $15; chicken half, $10.

Town of Lexington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will meet for their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Firemen’s room.

There will be a yard sale on Aug. 13 on the lawn by the Lexington/West Kill UMC, 54 County Route 13A, Lexington. If you would like to sell your treasures that day, a space is $15; set up is 9 a.m. sale 10 a.m-4 p.m. Please call Marie at 518-989-6242 by Aug. 10 to reserve space. Rain date is Aug. 20.

The Kaaterskill UMC Roast Beef and Peach Shortcake Dinner will be held 4:30-6 p.m. Aug. 16, free will offering, take out only at the Tannersville Rescue Squad Building.

Greene County Public Health Department Rabies Clinic for Greene County residents will be held 5-7 p.m. Aug. 17, drive up only, at Angelo Canna Town Park, Cairo. You need to call to preregister so paperwork can be ready when you arrive at the clinic, 518-719-3600. You must wear a mask and remain inside your vehicle at all times. Bring record of pet’s previous vaccinations for a three-year certificate. If no record is present, pet will be given a one-year certificate. Vaccines are free but donations will be accepted to defray program cost. Dogs must be on leash, cats and ferrets in carriers.

Aug. 20 at noon is the Town of Lexington Historical Society Annual Town Picnic. Bring a dish to share if you can. Hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks will be available. At 1 p.m. Josh Choquette from the DEC will give a presentation on bears in this area.

July is almost gone. Really? Is that why I saw a TV commercial for artificial Christmas trees and receiving Christmas catalogs? Oh, and in case you haven’t noticed, some trees are fading and turning already.

Thanks to all the healthcare providers, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, dispatchers, volunteers, essential and front line workers, farmers, truck drivers, our military, their families and so many more.
