CLAVERACK — Multiple fire and rescue crews were on the scene of a serious accident involving three vehicles in Claverack early Wednesday morning.

State police, who were first on the scene, pulled a man from a burning truck, Claverack Fire Chief Brennan Keeler said.

The truck landed in a field on the south side of Route 9H following the accident.

More information is expected to be released today on the crash, said Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K.

At about 12:37 a.m., Columbia County 911 sent Claverack and Mellenville fire departments and Greenport Rescue Squad to the scene after receiving reports on the accident.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove a second person who was trapped in a car, Keeler said.

At least one person had serious injuries, Hicks said.

The area was closed to traffic for several hours while crews worked and while state police investigated.
