SPENCERTOWN — Spencertown Academy Arts Center announces the winners of its “Community Writes” winter writing project. To read the selected fiction and non-fiction pieces, see spencertownacademy.org.

“We are excited to announce these eight winners in our literary project. We cannot really call it a contest, because we do not rank the ‘winners,’ and there unfortunately are no prizes, aside from having one’s piece posted on our website for others to read,” says Jill Kalotay, Academy board member and facilitator of the initiative.

These are the selected entries, listed alphabetically by the author’s last name.

Fiction

Bob Heller, “Hanging Upside Down”; Carolyn Kirsch, “So There You Are”; Theodore K Phelps, “Cannolis.”

Non-Fiction:

Stella Elliston, “Dueling With Mara”; Barbara Iuvene, “Midnight Mass”; Robert Lonergan, “Tilting At Windmills”; S. Salit, “Keep Playing Basketball”; Gerald Seligman, “Faking British Accent In Czestochowa, Poland 1982.”
