CATSKILL — A Greene County man was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree rape.

Daysen J. South, 23, of Catskill, was arrested at 3:26 p.m. Dec. 30 and charged with second-degree rape and second-degree criminal sex act with a victim under the age of 15, both class D felonies; second-degree dissemination of indecent material to a minor, a class E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

State police received an anonymous tip that a young girl was having a sexual relationship with South, state police Public Information Officer Steven Nevel said.

“An investigation of the girl’s social media revealed that she did have a sexual relationship with Daysen South,” Nevel said.

It is unclear at this time how long the relationship had been going on, Nevel said, adding that the case is still under investigation.

South was also charged with sending indecent pictures to a minor, Nevel said.

South was released on his own recognizance. This was determined by the court, not police, Nevel said.

South was scheduled to report to the Greene County Probation Department at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to receive a GPS ankle monitor. Additionally, an order of protection was issued for the alleged victim, Nevel said.

South is scheduled to appear in Catskill Town Court on Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.

Greene County Child Protective Services assisted state police in the investigation.
