AUSTERLITZ — An Albany woman was struck and killed while walking along the Taconic State Parkway early Sunday after her vehicle became disabled, Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett said.
Fiona Tobin, 25, of Albany, was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Sunday morning one mile south of Route 203 as she was walking north in the southbound lane.
Police were called to the scene at about 12:57 a.m.
The sheriff said Tobin was struck by a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Ernest Sigler of Ancram, 30, who was driving south.
Deputies found what they believe to be Tobin’s vehicle, a 2016 Nissan Altima, in an embankment two miles from where she died. The vehicle had struck a tree, police said.
The crash is under investigation and Tobin’s autopsy is scheduled to be performed Monday morning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. The Sheriff’s Office Accident/Incident Investigative Unit responded to the scene.
Assisting at the scene were Chatham Rescue Squad, Spencertown Fire Company, and the New York State Police. County Coroner Bernadette Powis responded this morning and is assisting with the investigation, police said.
