CLAVERACK — Several people were injured Tuesday afternoon in an accident that involved multiple vehicles in Claverack.

Two of the victims were taken to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad with serious injuries, said Claverack Fire Chief Brennan Keeler.

Officials at the scene had requested two Life Net helicopters, but Life Net was unable to arrive at the scene quickly, so the two victims were taken by ambulance, Keeler said.

The injuries to a third person were not immediately known.

State police, who were first on the scene, reported three people were injured.

Multiple vehicles on the lot at Village Dodge were also hit and damaged in the accident.

The crash, which involved a car and a pickup truck, occurred at the intersection of Route 9H and Route 66. It was first reported to Columbia County 911 at about 3:15 p.m.

Fire companies from Claverack and Mellenville responded to the scene.

Both Route 9H and Route 66 were closed through the area while crews worked.

The roads remained closed for several hours after the crash as the state police Accident Reconstruction Team investigated.

The roads were reopened after 7 p.m.

Both of the vehicles involved in the original accident were towed from the scene.

State police investigated. They were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office was also on the scene.
