LIVINGSTON — Three people were taken to area hospitals following a two-car collision Wednesday afternoon in Livingston, state police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman said.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, Lowman said.
At about 5:29 p.m., a car traveling north on Route 9, driven by Julius Gintli, 64, of Mellenville, entered the Bells Pond intersection when a pick-up truck driven by Joshua Jackson, 22, of Brooklyn, turned in front of him, and the two vehicles collided, Lowman said.
The car and pickup came to rest on the east shoulder of the road and rolled down a small embankment.
Jackson was taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation. Two of Jackson’s passengers, Laniaya Gaskins-Zanders, 21, of Binghamton, and Ryan Washington, 22, of Albany, were taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
All three were treated and released, Lowman said.
Gintli and a third passenger were examined by paramedics on the scene but both refused medical treatment.
Columbia County 911 sent Livingston Fire Company and Northern Dutchess Paramedics to the scene after receiving multiple reports of the accident.
When fire officials arrived at the crash, they requested additional ambulances were needed, and Greenport and Community rescue squads responded.
Traffic through the busy intersection was restricted while crews worked.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
State police investigated.
All firefighters were back in service at 6:25 p.m.
The day before Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest travel day of the year, according to AAA.
Road delays at the peak of holiday rush hour on Wednesday were about three times longer than usual, AAA said. Traffic volume on Wednesday was about 300% higher than on a usual Wednesday at peak times.
