HUDSON — A 3-year-old girl who was reported missing by her mother was found safe inside her apartment Monday afternoon, Hudson Police Chief L. Edward Moore said.

Hudson Police were called to 23 Fairview Ave. at about 1:55 p.m. after the girl’s mother reported the child had been missing for about 30 minutes, Moore said.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation detectives and troopers with state police bloodhound Tilly were called to assist. Police then requested assistance from Hudson firefighters to help search the neighborhood for the missing child.

A short time later, a second request was made for Greenport firefighters to assist, but they were not needed.

Police were able to locate the girl inside her apartment, Moore said. She had built a tunnel out of clothing and other items, and was sleeping inside it, Moore said. Outdoor temperatures were in the low 90s during the time of the search.
