KINDERHOOK — One person was killed and another was injured after a golf cart they were riding in collided with a car in Kinderhook on Saturday night.

Dopson A. Wynter, 60, of Kinderhook, who was driving the golf cart, was pronounced dead at the scene on Route 9, just north of the southern end of Maple Lane, after paramedics attempted to revive him, Hicks said.

A golf cart passenger, Henry Griffiths, 55, of Kinderhook, was brought to Albany Medical Center with reported serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Hicks added.

The accident happened at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday when Wynter drove a Club Car golf cart on to Route 9 from the west shoulder and he collided with a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Heather Graziosi, 40, of Livingston, who was traveling south on Route 9, Hicks said.

Niverville Fire Department and Valatie Rescue paramedics arrived at the scene where they found the golf cart and one of the men from the golf cart lying in the road. They began performing first aid on both men and Griffiths was immediately taken to Albany Medical Center by ambulance while Wynter died at the scene.

A LifeNet helicopter was placed on standby, but was later canceled by officials.

Fire Police closed Route 9 to traffic between Maple Lane south and Rapp Road. Valatie Fire Department was requested under mutual aid to stop all northbound traffic at the Kinderhook roundabout while fire trucks blocked Route 9 north and south of the crash.

Detoured vehicles were sent over to Maple Lane, which runs for several miles, and rejoins Route 9, north of the accident site.

Route 9 remained closed for several hours Saturday night while State Police investigated the accident.

No tickets were issued at the scene pending a police investigation, which is ongoing, Hicks said.

The Columbia County EMS Coordinator assisted on scene.
