EAST DURHAM — The driver of a van was injured Thursday morning in a one-car accident in East Durham.

The 38-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Albany Medical Center with a leg injury, said Steven Nevel, public information officer for state police Troop F, on Friday.

The accident happened at about 5:38 a.m., on Route 145, just north of Stone Bridge Road.

The 2018 Ford van was traveling south on Route 145, when the vehicle left the road and struck a fence and a tree, Nevel said.

Greene County 911 sent East Durham Fire Company, Oak Hill-Durham Fire Company, Greene County Paramedics and Durham Ambulance to the scene after receiving numerous reports of the crash.

The driver was reported to have been trapped inside the van.

Crews were able to free the driver from the vehicle and perform first aid before bringing him to Albany.

It was a lengthy process to get the man out of the van, according to fire officials.

A Life Net helicopter was placed on stand-by but was not needed.

Part of Route 145 was closed to traffic until the crash was cleared.

The van had extensive damage to the front end. It was towed from the scene.

State police investigated.

Firefighters later returned to the scene, to assist the homeowner in repairing the fence, which surrounded a horse pasture, fire officials said.
