TAGHKANIC — An accident involving a car and a pick-up truck injured four people and shut down part of the Taconic Parkway on Sunday, said Aaron Hicks, public information officer for State Police Troop K.

Miles Webber, 31, of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and an unidentified female passenger, 60, refused medical treatment, and were driven to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington by a private vehicle, Hicks said.

Don Loguercio, 70, of Queens, and an unidentified female passenger, 69, were taken by Northern Dutchess Paramedics to Mid Hudson Regional Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, with unspecified injuries, Hicks said.

Both vehicles were traveling south on the Taconic Parkway early Sunday afternoon, when the pick-up truck driven by Webber attempted to turn left on county Route 10 from the driving lane, colliding with the car driven by Loguercio, which was in the passing lane, Hicks said.

Webber was issued tickets by state police for making an illegal left turn.

The force of the crash caused the pick-up truck to roll over, Hicks said. After the crash, the pick-up truck blocked the southbound lanes and the car came to rest in the center median.

Taconic Fire Company and Northern Dutchess Paramedics were sent by Columbia County 911 to the accident scene. Fire officials requested an additional ambulance and Greenport Rescue Squad responded.

A LifeNet helicopter was placed on standby but was not needed.

Northbound traffic was down to one lane through the accident scene. Southbound traffic was detoured onto county Route 10, which caused long backups. State Police were sent to the intersection of Route 82 and County Route 10 to direct traffic.

Firefighters were back in service at 2:50 p.m.
