Womens Justice Project of Columbia County New York

Opens With An Afternoon Of Dance & Music

WEST TAGHKANIC — On Saturday October 17, the Womens Justice Project of Columbia County will hold its inaugural event featuring ballet, music and social justice at the Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts, West Taghkanic at 3 p.m.

A grass roots non-profit organization made of community women from a variety of professional fields, the Project’s mission is to support local woman who face life-challenging situations—whether that be reporting domestic violence to the police or facing the financial realities of becoming a suddenly single parent.

The Project is an action oriented response to the larger social justice discussion in society---one based on action over anger and empathy and outreach over societal division.

The Project seeks to make sure that any woman in crisis receive support to report domestic violence and seek help.

Woman or men who need support can e-mail the project at columbiacountywomensjustice@gmail.com and ask for a phone call. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can also contact the project at the above e-mail.

October marks Stop Domestic Violence Month and the Womens Justice Project has worked to create a network of support with a board comprised of professionals from the legal, medical, and social work fields. The Project will be based out of the Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts and plans to host educational seminars in the coming year.

The launch of the Project will be a festive but socially distanced event featuring young dancers from the community with a special dance honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Singer Marilyn Miller also will be entertaining the audience. The ballet performance is free and open to the public. Please RSVP for social distancing planning purposes.
