CHATHAM —The Chatham Reds 12U travel baseball team hosted the RC Clippers for baseball’s version of Friday night lights.

The Reds jumped out in front in the bottom of the second when Sean Harrington walked, moved to 2nd on a balk, to third on a single off the bat of Cooper Steltz, and scored on a wild pitch.

Landon Van Alstyne laced a hard single to center to score Steltz. Aidan Madsen reached and then Jackson Carl put the ball in play and an error later, both Van Alstyne and Madsen came around to score before they were able to tag Carl out at second.

Chatham added two more runs in the bottom of the third when Conner Madsen led off with a single and was quickly matched by a single off the bat of Brody Casivant. The runners stayed put until with two outs and two strikes Sean Harrington hit a long double down the right field line to score both Reds baserunners.

Rotterdam got on the board with one in the top of the fourth but the Reds got it right back when Griffin Reardon singled, moved to second on a balk, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Aidan Madsen.

Rotterdam answered with three more in the top of the fifth when an error. a walk and three consecutive singles scored three runs to make it 7-4. Brayden Steltz came on in the sixth to close it out. He made it interesting by loading the bases on a error and two walks, but was able to escape trouble and pick up the save with the help of Drew Horton, who made a nice play up the middle to end the threat and the game.

The Reds move to 4-0 on the season.

Clippers 12U Blue 23, TC Bombers 0

HUDSON — Cameron Newkirk had a home run, double and single with 5 RBI and Hunter Nielsen pitched a 2-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts to lead the Columbia Clippers 12U+ Blue to a 23-0 victory over the TC Bombers 12 White in Saturday’s Travel Baseball action.

Colton Hutson added a home run, double and 2 RBI to the Clippers’ attack. Tyler Sheldon had a double and single with 4 RBI, Aidan Buchinsky and Nielsen a double and single with 2 RBI each, Thomas Pierro a double with 2 RBI, Henry Slemp a double and an RBI, Tay Morrison and Brody Adickes a single and an RBI apiece, Maky Kirby 2 singles and Xavier Castle a single.


Upper Deck 10+ 5, Clippers 2

CHATHAM — The Upper Deck 10+ travel baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Columbia-Clippers 10U on Saturday.

Upper Deck took the first game, 5-2, and the second, 7-6.

In the opener, Amarion Perry doubled for the Clippers. Mason Briscoe singled and drove in a run.

Briscoe started on the mound and pitched five innings, strking out nine, walking two and allowing three runs and seven hits. Logan Burleigh pitched one inning of relief, surrendering two runs and two hits with one strikeout and one walk.

In the second game, Perry tripled, single and drove in a run for the Clippers. Evan Conte had two singles and an RBI, Briscoe, Ryan Link and Otto Slemp singled and Burleigh collected two RBI.

Perry (3k,1bb,1r,1h), Keegan Mullins (2k,6r,6h) and Conte (2k,1bb,1) all pitched for the Clippers.
