CRARYVILLE — Hudson broke open a tie game with a strong third quarter and went on to defeat Taconic Hills, 63-55, in Friday’s Patroon Conference boys basketball action.
Hudson raced out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter, but a 24-14 second-quarter run by Taconic Hills evened the score at halftime, 31-31. The Bluehawks got back on track in the third stanza, outscoring the Titans, 21-8, to take the lead for good.
Hudson coach Shawn Briscoe was proud of his young team’s effort.
“This is definitely, by far, the youngest varsity team since I’ve been here,” Briscoe said. “We really have zero varsity expereience except for Keith (Robinson) from last year, so it’s a process. The guys are really buying in in practice, they’re executing the gameplan that we’re putting forward, they’re buying in on the defensive end for the most part and they’re accepting their new roles. Some guys are taking on bigger roles than they had at the beginning of the year. We have a couple of guys we brought up from JV and we’re asking them to play decent minutes a lot of the games. Everyone is coming into their own and I think the guys are really working hard.
“A lot of credit goes to the coaching staff here, between Tyrone (Hedgepeth), Coach (Isiah) Heard, Coach (Derrick) Conte. I think we are having the success we are because I have the best coaching staff in the league. They help make my job easier on a daily basis.”
Keith Robinson scored 19 points for Hudson. Malaky Payton added 12 and Khalil Wilson had 10.
Troy Super was Taconic Hills’ top scorer with 18 points. Kobe Van Alstyne had 17 and Zach Rowe 15.
