GREENVILLE — No. 9 seed Holy Trinity scored singles runs in the first and second innings and held on to edge No. 8 Greenville, 2-1, in Tuesday’s opening round game in the Section II Class B Softball Tournament.
Greenville, which finishes up at 11-7, got a run back in the fifth when Shea Landversicht walked, went to second on Olivia Hughes, single, took third on a ground out and cored on an infield error. that would be as close as the Spartans would get, though, and Holy Trinity escaped with the victory.
Hughes and Brianna Shutter singled to account for Greenville’s only hits.
Maddy Prayto pitched well in defeat, allowing two runs and four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Holy Trinity advances to play at No. 1 seed Ichabod Crane on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal round game.
CASTLETON — Hoosick Falls eliminated Maple Hill from the Section II Class C Softball Tournament on Tuesday with a 6-3 victory.
Winning pitcher Kennedy Boisvert scattered seven hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks for No. 9 seed Hoosick Falls.
Mackenna Roberson led the Panthers’ offense with a double and single and two RBI. Izabella Stefanovich and Erin Conety each had a double and single, Brooke Tonnensen singled and drove n two runs and Maddison Myers singled and drove in a run.
Emma Dugan collected two singles and two RBI for No. 8 seed Maple Hill. Sydney Rogers, Olivia Mueller, Kate Brodzinski, Maddy Camadine and Taylor Chapman all singled.
Camadine was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs and eight hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
Hoosick Falls moves on to play at No. 1 seed Chatham on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
“Hoosick Falls played great today and earned this victory,” Maple Hill coach Patrick Austin said. “Their pitcher is so darn tough. We had some opportunities and cashed in on a few but definitely left a few others out there. Defensively we made a few mistakes, but no excuses ... we flat out got beat today by a good team.
“We are sad to see our three seniors graduate (Alyssa Martin, Sam Manning, Emma Dugan) but we had a heck of a season and I’m looking forward to spending some time with the girls reflecting on all of our great accomplishments. I had a really fun time with this great group.”
