LOCAL ROUNDUP: Greenville’s Smith wins Patroon Medalist Tournament

FREEHOLD — Greenville’s Trey Smith shot a 77 to win the Patroon Conference Medalist Tournaent at Thurderhart Golf Course on Friday.

Maple Hill’s John Russell finished second with an 83 and Ryan of Arp of Greenville took third with an 85.

Rounding out the top finishers was: Markham Daly (MH) 93, Ben Hunter (TH) 95, Dan Zito (Hudson) 95, Zach Rowe (TH) 99, Zach Casivant (Chatham) 100, Brayden Conrad (Coxsackie-Athens) 102, Matt Bowes (Hudson) 109, Ryan Graziano (Chatham) 111, Mike Jubie (Catskil) 111 and Ricky Edwards (Catskill) 115.

“It was a wonderful day for the medalist,” Catskill coach and Patroon Conference Golf Coordinator Brian Smith said. “The seniors got an opportunity to enjoy their last time playing competitive golf with friends they met along the way.

“Thunderhart did a fabulous job hosting the event, and the players and coaches were extremely grateful. Although the season was shortened it was great to see the golfers taking advantage of each and every moment. Hopefully this sets the tone for athletics in the upcoming months.”

VALATIE — The Ichabod Crane girls tennis team won its fourth straight match without a loss on Friday, defeating Schoharie, 6-1.

GREENVILLE — The Greenville boys and girls cross country teams each picked up two wins in Friday’s Patroon Conference action.

The Spartan boys topped Hudson, 15-incomplete an Taconic Hills 18-43, while the girls defeated Hudson, 15-incomplete and Taconic Hills, 22-39.

Greenville’s Ryan Russell won the boys race in 15:58. The Spartans’ Tess Fitzmaurice took the girls race in 18:46.
