“Neither team played their sharpest at times, but it was one heck of a softball game,” Maple Hill coach Patrick Austin said. “ They came off the bus with plenty of energy and enthusiasm and put up a well earned two runs in the first. After getting a run in the third, Greenville pushed across four in the fourth after a few nice base hits (a line-drive shot to deep center) and a few mistakes on our part. Our team never gave up and believed in each other, though.
“We were scrappy in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up, and Emma Dugan, who has been one of our top hitters these past few seasons, came up clutch in the eighth with a hard ground ball into LF to score Rogers from second base for the game winning run. This is the second season in a row we’ve gone into extras with Greenville. Their pitchers threw hard; have to give them credit.”
