GREENPORT — The Rattlers took the early win on Saturday 9-7 over the Bucks as they try to keep pace with the Storm at the top of the Hudson River Collegiate Baseball League standings.

Will Simkin (Jefferson Community College) came away with the win while Eli Larson (SUNY Canton) was pinned with the loss and Isiah Tucker (MCLA) earned a save.

Zach LaBaff (Fulton-Montgomery Community College) started the game for the Bucks and had the longest outing of all pitchers, allowing three runs over five complete innings pitched and driving in two runs at the plate himself. Joe Peregrim III (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the losing effort.

Each team committed three errors and the rest of the runs in the game were scored on errors, wild pitches, and passed balls. Joe Saia (RPI) had two hits and two runs scored for the Rattlers in their tenth win of the season.

Orioles 4 Storm 3

Joseph Fischer (Westfield State University) had a complete game win in the Orioles’ 4-3 victory over the Storm.

Fischer allowed three runs, only two of them earned, and struck out nine in the contest. Jon Toth (Muhlenburg College) and Matt Panker (Colby College) each drove in a run for the Orioles, and Luke Duffy (St John Fisher College) went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Storm.

In the loss, Storm pitchers Devin Milberg (Dartmouth College) and Ethan Caiazza (Skidmore College) combined to strike out 19 Orioles. The teams combined for eight errors in the game; the Storm with five and the Orioles with three.

Ryan Lansing (Herkimer Community College) scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth on an error by the first baseman and the Orioles went home with the victory.

MudCats 8 Bears 1

The MudCats defeated the Bears 8-1 in six innings on Saturday evening. Gabriel Mounkhall (SUNY Plattsburgh) threw a full six innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out seven.

Andrew Aragones (Nichols College) was pinned with the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits and surrendering five walks in three innings. Jordan Stone came on in relief for the Bears and didn’t allow a hit for the MudCats the rest of the game, but the Bears’ bats could not come alive.

Cavan Brady (Wheaton College), Peter Mastropolo (Stevens Institute of Technology), Kenny Benitez (SUNY Fredonia), and Brian Rapillo (Centenary University) all drove in one run each for the MudCats, and Paul Scotto (SUNY Orange) drove in two in the complete team effort.

The Bears lone run came on a bases-loaded walk of Zackary Scribner (Clarkson University) that scored Jared Lee (St John Fisher College).
