SARATOGA — Eli Russo, a sophomore from Taconic Hills, placed sixth with a time of 17:06.18 at the Section II Class C Cross Country Championships at Saratoga State Park on Friday.

Russo’s performance earned the Titans’ standout a trip to the State Meet at Chenango Valley in Binghamton this weekend.

“Eli’s incredible work ethic and drive allowed him to become the first Taconic Hill male runner to earn a berth to the State Meet in our program’s history,” Titans cross country coach Kory Kolewe said.

Greenville’s Finn Kosich turned in a top 20 performance, finishing 12th in 17:25.40.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Bennett Melita took first pace in the boys Class C race in 16:00.97.

In the girls Class C race, Coxsackie-Athens’ Claire Hulbert was the top local finisher, taking 15th in 21:00.31

In Class D, Chatham’s Brycen Haner finished second in 16:47.56, while teammates Tobias (17:23.72) and Timmy Jeralds (17:25.64) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Cameron Abdela of Mayfield won the Class D boys race in 16:41.72.

Chatham’s Ella Uhlar was the top local finisher in the girls class D race, finihsing 17th in 21:59.76.
