COHOES — Alex Schmidt scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out six assists as defending state Class B champion Ichabod crane opened their Colonial Council boys basketball schedule with a 73-44 victor over Cohoes on Friday.
Daniel Warner had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Riders, who built quarterly leads of 20-15, 50-31 and 61-38.
Skye Keparitus topped Cohoes with 14 points. Bryce Hancock chipped in with 12.
Ichabod Crane (1-0 Colonial, 3-0 overall) hosts Mohonasen on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

RENSSELAER — Chatham opened defense of its Patroon Conference boys basketball title with a 58-37 victory over Rensselaer on Friday.
Matt Thorsen was Chatham’s top point producer with 18 points. Tate Van Alstyne added 11 and Jacob Baccaro had 10.
Shamell Jackson’s nine points led Rensselaer. Izaiah Johnson had seven and Malachi Spickerman contributed six.
Chatham led 10-5 after one quarter, 22-16 at halftime and 48-29 after three quarters.
Chatham (1-0 Patroon, 2-1 overall) entertains Watervliet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

CASTLETON — Luke Hoffman and Brad Cole both scored 13 points to highlight Male Hill’s 53-38 Patroon Conference boys basketball victory over Coxsackie-Athens on Friday.
The Wildcats pulled away from a 23-23 halftime tie by outscoring the Riverhawks, 12-6, in the third quarter and 18-9 in the fourth to sew up the win.
Nixon King led C-A with eight points. Nate van Alphen and Andrew sager each had six.
Coxsackie-Athens travels to Rensselaer on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., while Maple Hill goes to Chatham on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

CRARYVILE — Troy Super dropped 15 points as Taconic Hill won its Patroon Conference boys basketball season opener on Friday, defeating Cairo-Durham, 50-39.
The Titans trailed 24-23 at halftime, but outscored the Mustangs, 11-4, in the third and 16-11 in the fourth to pull away.
Neil Howard III and Zach Rowe each had 11 points for Taconic Hills.
Cairo-Durham visits Germantown on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Taconic Hills travels to Hudson on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
