GREENVILLE — Greenville pulled away from a close game with a 16-7 scoring edge in the final quarter to earn a 55-44 victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo is Saturday’s season-opening boys basketball game.

The Spartans took a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play and were up 25-20 at halftime. BKW took the lead early in the third quarter, but Greenville came back to take a 39-37 edge by the end of the stanza, then put the game away with a strong fourth quarter.

“It’s an ugly win, but we’ll take it,” Greenville coach Dane Carpenter said.

Damien Fiducia led Greenville with 23 points, including five three-pointers. Eli Larsen added 13 and Ben Lewis had 12. Larsen is a 6-9 senior transfer student from California and was a tower of strength in the middle for the Spartans.

“He’s only going to get better,” Carpenter said.

Zeke Pulliam’s 18 points topped the Bulldogs.

Greenville plays at Hudson on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Ichabod Crane 43, Watervliet 37

WATERVLIET — Brett Richards recorded a double-double to help Ichabod Crane successfully open its season with a 43-37 victory over Watervliet on Saturday.

Richards scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Riders, who trailed 12-9 after one quarter and 21-19 at halftime befre surging to a 33-29 advantage by the end of the third quarter.

Alex Schmidt added 12 points to the Riders’ attack.

Jadon Dickson led Watervliet with 12 points. Mike Griffin had nine.

Ichabod Crane goes to LaSalle on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Maple Hill 54, Duanesburg 31

CASTLETON — Blake Decker and Dominic Hirschoff combined to outscore the entire Duanesburg team as Maple Hill defeated the eagles, 54-31, in Friday’s boys basketball game.

The Wildcats (1-1) built quarterly leads of 16-6, 28-15 and 34-24.

Decker finished with 19 points and Hirschoff had 16 for Maple Hill.

Bryce Burkhardt had nine points for Duanesburg.

Maple Hill visits Hoosic Valley on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
