2020 Patroon Conference Girls Soccer All-Stars

Tim Martin/Columbia-Greene MediaMaple Hill junior Alayna Fletcher was named the 2020 Patroon Conference Girls Soccer Most Valuable Player.

CASTLETON — Alayna Fletcher, the leading scorer on the Patroon Conference girls soccer champion Maple Hill Wildcats, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Fletcher stood out as Maple Hill compiled a 5-2 record during the regular season, then helped the Wildcats defeat Chatham, 2-1 in overtime in the league tournament semifinals and Greenville, 1-0, in the championship game.

“Alayna is a pleasure to coach,” Maple Hill coach Sheila Golden said. “She eats, drinks, and sleeps soccer. She had 14 goals in 9 games but none bigger than the three she had in the two-game tournament.

“She put our team on her back and they rode her right into the championship. She loves the pressure. She had all three goals in the Cairo Durham game when we were down 2-0. I couldn’t ask for much more out of her. I know she would love to play in college. She’s only going to get better.”

For her efforts, Golden was named the Patroon Coach of the Year.

“I was honored to be coach of the year,” Golden said. “They’re a great bunch of girls and they made my job easy.”

Three of Fletcher’s teammates were named first-team All-Stars: senior goalkeeper Mia Fleck, senior midfield Kylie Roloson and sophomore defender Gianna Morse.

Regular-season champion Greenville also had three players named to the first team: senior midfield Isabella Trostle, junior forward Emma Haller and eighth-grade midfield Ella Grupe.

Rounding out the first team were Hannah Esslie and Xxaria Makely of Cairo-Durham, Hannah Taylor and Gabby Fisher of Chatham and Isabella Hamann of Taconic Hills.
