To the editor:

When you vote for Kinderhook’s Town Supervisor and Board members, I urge you to vote for opportunity. With the leadership of Matthew Nelson as Town Supervisor and Jill Shattenkirk-Mescia and Melissa Miller as Town Board Members, we can grasp previously ignored opportunities for our town to help our citizens without raising taxes. Consider this example from the NYS Regional Economic Development Councils:

$6.9 Billion awarded since 2011; $750 Million available for applications in 2021 (deadline: July 2021); $0: Amount of funding sought by the Town of Kinderhook over the last 10 years.

Funds secured by other Towns have invested in a variety of initiatives such as infrastructure development, arts programs, and Main Street revitalization.

What could Kinderhook do with similarly secured external funding? We could fix our failing water infrastructure. We could expand recreational facilities and programming for our youth and seniors.

Kinderhook is overdue to have a Town Board that recognizes the potential for progress..

We need action, not avoidance of responsibility and willful neglect of our community though complacency. Matthew, Jill and Melissa have the skill and drive to move our town forward.

I urge you to vote for the Kinderhook United candidates: Matthew Nelson, Jill Shattenkirk-Mescia and Melissa Miller. Let’s end years of irresponsible inaction by the Kinderhook Town Board.
