Congressman Marc Molinaro has urgent business that requires his attention. On March 20, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change implored governments to embark on an urgent course correction to tackle the climate emergency. Increased urgency comes from consequences that are turning out worse than predicted.
As a member of the Energy & Commerce Committee, Molinaro is positioned to help rein in carbon emissions but his response so far seems to be business as usual. His reply to my inquiry was full of easy platitudes about balancing environmental protection with economic growth.
Faced with an emergency, such as the one described by over 200 scientist in the IPCC’s latest report, Congressman Molinaro needs to become more focused. An urgent course correction won’t happen by playing politics.
Congressman Molinaro is three months into his term, so relatively new. But every day that goes by puts people in the 19th District at greater risk of suffering dramatic effects from climate change.
Things as varied as the price of eggs to the recent pandemic have been effected by global warming which makes these pocketbook issues for us all. It’s time for Marc Molinaro to get down to urgent business instead of business as usual.
