To the editor:
The Columbia County Board of Supervisors will be holding a special meeting to determine the fate of our beautiful Fish and Game at 3 p.m. Sept. 3 on a zoom meeting which the general public can view through Youtube and participate in over email through Kelly Baccaro, the board clerk at email@example.com.
What’s at stake is a lot of taxpayer money and a $5 million dollar project to widen 1.9 mile section of Fish and Game Road between Route 217 and Damita Drive. We feel this is a very frivolous use of taxpayer dollars at a very unpredictable and financially tenuous time for the county. Not to mention traffic studies show that road width is directly related to traffic fatalities. Traffic studies repeatedly show that wider roads create faster traffic through rural communities and residents of this road are concerned that very little thought or logic has gone into this decision. This project has been in the works for a while now and throughout the process residents have spoken up at board meetings asking for answers to why this is necessary especially since Eminent Domain is part of the plan. Town officials refer us to County officials who send us back to the town officials. We are tired of the runaround. This ambiguious behavior and lack of respect for our land and concerns for its use has lead to all kinds of conjectures about hidden agendas and at this point residents are looking for support from the community.
Please, if you love driving down Fish and Game and are concerned about how decisions are made that will directly affect your land, your wells, your children waiting for the school buses, and your safety on the roads, help us stop this project. Write a letter of support to Ronald Knott and Kelly Baccaro tonight to help us get the point across to the County.
