Josh Riley and Antonio Delgado had similar positions on most issues. But Delgado had a record on which to run, and Riley did not. And that made all the difference. Delgado had a much better chance to beat Marc Molinaro.
He deserted the district and the voters who supported him with their efforts, votes, and money. I was one of them. For what? Who had ever heard of Kathy Hochul or David Paterson before the resignations of Governors Spitzer and Cuomo?
Delgado resigned from his seat either because he wanted to advance what he thinks is the road to higher office or because he cynically bet the Democrats would lose their majority in the House, to which he has made a significant contribution.
Either way, he is a traitor to the cause he repeatedly vowed was the highest honor the voters could bestow.
Time and again, he told us how important his work was. We believed him. He skipped town as fast as he could, thereby giving up the best chance Democrats had to retain the seat.
He has nothing but shame on his hands.
