As this letter is being written, a coalition of more than 1,200 climate and environmental organizations are organizing a National Day of Action on Aug. 2 to call on President Biden to declare a climate emergency.
We acknowledge this difficult moment of processing the profound tradeoffs and pro-fossil fuel provisions baked into the Inflation Reduction Act. We know folks are having hard conversations — both within their climate action groups and with friends and allies.
Whatever your take is on the Inflation Reduction Act, it is important that we continue to press for bold action from President Biden.
Since his first day in office, we have called for the President to take strong executive action to declare a climate emergency to stop approving new fossil fuel leases, projects and exports… and just as important, to drive investments in regenerative clean energy.
For more go to climatepresident.org to read about on the steps President Biden must take to mitigate climate disruption.
Together, we have made tremendous progress in recent weeks, including the President putting into effect the Defense Production Act to boost manufacturing of renewable energy technologies.
Many people are hurting, but the future beyond fossil fuels is within our collective grasp. If we continue to take action together, we can create a more just, sustainable world. We must keep pushing the President to be the climate president he said he is.
