To the editor:

I am the constituent referenced in your article “No replacement planned for planning board chairman.”

First and foremost, I thank Walter Chatham for his service chairing the Planning Board. It is not an easy role and he should be commended for his work and volunteerism.

While I disagree with Walter’s categorization of the waterfront issue, I am glad that he has put his view out there. My hope is that it leads to a constructive public conversation.

I would like to correct one misconception. My objection to the “Working Session” following the planning board meeting on Dec. 10 was around scheduling and public attendance. It was a fair assumption at the meeting that at least one or two new board members would be joining the Planning Board in January. Why not have them included in the information being shared? They will already have a steep learning curve in joining the Planning Board next year. I saw a great benefit in bringing them into that very important conversation. I think we should set them up to succeed.

Contrary to what has been said, I want more information, not less. Further, I believe everyone within the community who wants to participate should be allowed to take part. Accessibility is imperative.
