In a time when Americans were beset by the Vietnam War, Cold War fears and assassinations of popular leaders, debate raged about reducing the legal voting age from 21 to 18, and young people by the droves stood up to be counted.

Voting has long been a cherished right in the United States and opening the polls to an under-21 electorate would, hopefully, pump some fresh blood and new activism into politics.
