PRATTSVILLE — November 11 is Veterans Day. Thank you to our veterans here, there and everywhere. Special thanks and appreciation go out to our local heroes — members of the American Legion Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327 and Legionnaires in other Posts in Greene County. We know up close and personal that you are first in line to support your fellow veterans especially those who are hospitalized. Thank you for your service and your continued support of your brethren. Make November Veterans’ Month and every day is Veterans’ Day.
We continue to thank and appreciate our healthcare workers and all essential workers. We are in your debt. We pray for your safety and good health.
Youngs Ace Hardware generously provided space for the American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 to sell tickets for their Christmas Baskets of Cheer raffle. Thank you to the Youngs and their wonderful staff. They not only helped wrestle the large Baskets of Cheer inside, the helped set up and supported the cause, buying raffle tickets and making outright donations. Due to Covid-19 many of the fundraisers were canceled and funds are in short supply to provide the necessary funds to secure gifts for the Christmas Celebration for the veterans at the Stratton VAMC in Albany.
Elliott and Shelly Brainard, Legionnaire and Auxiliary member, delivered a carload of items to the Stratton VA on Wednesday. Gerri Barry and Laurie Gustin, members of the American Legion Auxiliary of Conesville offered their help and it was eagerly accepted. The two ladies took up a carload of toys and fun things on Friday for the immediate use of the veterans. They need some new crafts and games to occupy their time while in isolation. If you want to help, call 518-299-3219, the Gurleys, or firstname.lastname@example.org. Have a Wish List to share along with the sizes. Thank you to all who have already helped and continue to help. You are easing the veterans’ loneliness at this time.
Michael and Krista Cross of Stamford received the news, along with pictures, their son L Cpl. Nicholas Cross has received his rank of Lance Corporal in the USMC. Nick has been at his overseas post for some months now. Nick is the greatgrandson of Stella and Val Cross. We thank him for his service and wish him safe return.
Get well wishes go out to Randy Brainerd. Perhaps by the time you read this, he will be home and cooking Sunday dinners for his family. Sympathy is extended to Gerald Jaeger and family. Our thoughts are with his widow Linda, his children and grandchildren.
The Election Day turkey dinner at the Lexington UMC was sorely missed. It was a time to get out and enjoy the last community dinner of the year, and to exchange news with neighbors before tucking in for the winter.
Happy Birthday to Abby Tompkins on Nov. 15. On Nov. 16 we wish Jeff Breigle and Kevin Piccoli Happy Birthday. On Nov. 18 we wish Laura Breigle a very Happy Birthday. Wonder if she and her dad Jeff will have a mutual birthday dinner.
