PRATTSVILLE — Seems like there is a lack of activities between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. But soon there will be Memorial Day observances, graduations and the parties, Father’s Day, etc, etc.
Remember to honor our deceased heroes by attending Memorial Day Parades and observances. Prattsville’s annual Memorial Day parade, sponsored by the American Legion Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327, Prattsville, will line up at 12:30 p.m. with step off at 1 p.m. The Memorial Services will take place on the Prattsville Town Green immediately following the parade. All are encouraged to attend and stay awhile, perhaps bringing your lunch and stay and eat with relatives, friends and neighbors. Prattsville’s Main Street is again observing the service of our hometown heroes with their banners being put up on Saturday in time for Memorial Day. Commander Chris Tompkins, of Post 1327, is doing a great job of leading his fellow Legionnaires and brethren in making sure we do not forget those who have or are serving our Country. Thank you veterans for all you did and continue to do. If you have a family member so honored with Hometown Heroes Banners, take a stroll down Prattsville’s Main Street and read with pride your family’s member and others who have served so honorably.
The Gilboa Conesville Central School budget passed for the upcoming school year, there were no increases on any of the propositions. Michael Fleischmans was re-elected to another term on the School Board of Education, and the other two Propositions also passed.
Isaac and Nadine Gurley Huntsman welcomed their second son on May 15. Crew Finley Huntsman weighed in 9 lbs 7 oz and was more than 21 inches in length. Big brother Lincoln approves of his little brother and Nadine feels she is lucky because Crew is a contented baby with no complaints. Congratulations to this young family. Isaac also attended his graduation in Pennsylvania from his medical training for nurse-anesthetist and will be employed locally. Good show Isaac.
We need rain. Had to water the seeds to get them germinated. All of us did hold off on planting transplants and after the frost on Wednesday evening, it was a smart move.
Thank you to all who have supported the American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 Poppies for Veterans. There will be Poppies available for a few more weeks. Stop by Jim’s Great American on Tuesdays and there will be Auxiliary members with Poppies on Memorial Day. Auxiliary volunteers have been Diana Jaeger, Nancy Kizyma, Cathy Martino, Marianne Krauss, Linda Jaeger, Ginny Gurley and Mary Jo Oakes. Proceeds support veterans and their families in need. As American Legion Auxiliary member and American Legionnaire, Diana and Arnold Jaeger spent May 16 putting American Flags on all veterans’ graves in seven local cemeteries. Although it makes a very long and tiring day, Diana and Arnold make it a day of gratitude and thankfulness. After a quick breakfast, they pack their lunch and start off an their all day project. They do stop by the school for the budget vote. This is what is part of being a contributing member of American society.
