PRATTSVILLE — Fall is here. No frost in Prattsville, not even rime frost on the main roads. But, Grand Gorge and Gilboa both had frost over the weekend. Does anyone remember the latest date for a killing frost in our area? Know a few years ago we went until about Oct. 10 for the first heavy frost. It seems the late autumn weather has been taken advantage of by squirrels and chipmunks. What nuisances! Plus they seem to be very intelligent in avoiding traps of all sorts. Devil’s pets.

If you need some exercise just spend some time with Mindy Sokoll. She entertained four of us for about 10 minutes and with her high octane speech, with accompanying motions, we got our exercise for the day. Thanks Mindy and look forward to another encounter. We all loved Mindy as our Prattsville Postmaster. She is now retired from the PO and has taken up another career. Good luck Mindy.

Marianne Krauss, Lula Anderson and son David stopped by for some apples. They are not the best looking apples, but the insides are perfect and they taste delicious. Marianne and Lula are both members of WAJPL Golden Agers and are busy arranging their Chinese Auction fundraiser on Nov. 13 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Community Room at the Windham Waste Water Treatment Building, corner of Route 23 and South Street, Windham. They are accepting donated items and/or sponsored tables by individuals or organizations. They are setting beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 12. You will have a wide selection to choose from.

A family birthday celebration was held for Joanne Dunphy on Oct. 23 at the Chicken Run.

In addition to birthday girl Joanne, daughters Jill, Joy and Jodi, granddaughters Carina, Christina, Alexa and Nadine were there as were grandson Rob and grandson-in-law Isaac and great-grandsons Freyer and Lincoln. Several friends also joined in the festivities. Happy Birthday Joanne and glad you got to celebrate with family and friends.

How proud we are of our Prattsville girls attending Gilboa Conesville CS. Four are eligible for NYS Empire Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327. A few years ago Abby Thompkins was our Empire Girls State delegate and for 2020 Ava Gockel was chosen but the actual event didn’t take place because of the pandemic and sadly 2021 was virtual. They both deserve our thanks and congratulations for representing us so honorably. Thank you Mr. Ringuette, Guidance Counselor, for your prompt assistance.

Kip Rikard on his way to a fun outing, dropped off donations at the Stratton VAMC for Michael Fitzpatrick, Voluntary Services Director, Michele Ferrauilo, 9th Floor/RT and Jessica Hermance, Women’s Maternity Care. Jessica collects baby items for newborns as well as post delivery items for the new moms. All items are accepted on behalf of veterans, either in-hospital or needy veterans at home.
