PRATTSVILLE — We want to thank all the local volunteer firemen for lining the streets of towns and villages with American Flags in remembrance of the victims of 9/11. You didn’t forget your fallen comrades. You are also special.
Good news. Kaitlyn Cross-Greco, daughter of Rosanne Cross and granddaughter of Linda Jaeger, has been named to the Dean’s list at Bryant & Stratton College. Kaitlyn has become a dedicated student and it shows in her success at college with a 3.6 average. Congratulations Kaitlyn.
Seven members of the American Legion Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327 attended the flag burning ceremony in Conesville at the Susquehanna American Legion Post 1764 on Sept. 7. They were Commander Chris Tompkins, Johannes Krauss, Bob Gurley, Arnold Jaeger, Mike Meli, Tom Mattice and Larry Cowden. Auxiliary members Diana Jaeger, Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley also attended. More than 1,000 American flags were respectly disposed of by burning. Members of the Susquehanna Post 1764 and Auxiliary Unit 1764 arranged this ceremony and we thank them. It is gratifying to know our Legion Posts support each other in their events. It was a lovely fall evening made more comfortable when the mosquito repellent was shared. Fellow columnist Dottie Pickett was there taking pictures for the newspapers.
The two grills that were purchased by our area for the residential veterans at Stratton VAMC were christened on Sept. 10 with a barbecue. Michele Ferrauilo, Recreational Therapist for the residential veterans on the 9th floor, said they will have their first barbecue since the pandemic. Although they have been able to do some outdoor activities, they are not able as of now to interact with others outside of their families. The cookies, pudding cups, etc. that were requested by the VA and bought by local supporters, delivered by Bob and Ginny Gurley on Thursday, were just in time to be their dessert after the barbecue. Thank you to all for gifting them with fun items. Items for new veteran mothers and babies and needy veterans were also delivered at the same time.
Sympathy to the family of Tammy Ramp Clark who recently died. Tammy was a quiet lady who went about her life doing things that benefited many. We are grateful for her helpfulness and generosity.
Theresa Gier of Grand Gorge is now home and on her road to recovery. I expect some phone calls Theresa.
Nadine Gurley Huntsman and son Lincoln were visiting relatives in Prattsville over the weekend. Nadine needed some down time from her busy schedule as wife, mother and nurse. She also got some birthday cheer. Her birthday is Sept. 14 and Lincoln will celebrate his first birthday Sept. 23.
Did you notice we have a new school tax collector. Our long standing collector, Irene Hess, has decided to take a much deserved retirement and is helping the new collector, Carol Maxim-Aplin, learn the ropes
