Congratulations to all the students graduating!

Susan Simpfenderfer was very happy to have her family together to help her celebrate her birthday last weekend. Was good to see each other and be able to spend time together.

Abigail Dwon’s Bows and Chords Spring Virtual Recital was held on May 16 on Zoom. All of the students did a great job performing from their homes and showing the advancements of their musical skills.

Happy birthday to Janet Nicholls on May 22. Also celebrating his birthday on May 22 is Dan Davern. May 23 is Marilyn Soule’s birthday. Happy birthday to Sarah Jordan on May 23. May 25 is William Trach’s birthday. Happy 41st wedding anniversary to Pastor Bob and Diane Nash on May 26. Best wishes to all.

The Margaretville Telephone Company has provided a WiFi hot spot located by the pavilion at the Lexington Municipal Building. You are welcome to use it either under the pavilion or in your cars. Please be respectful of social distancing.

There will be no Brook’s Chicken BBQ at the Lexington/West Kill UMC that was scheduled for May 22. Because of the current situation, the Lexington UMC Trustees thought it best to cancel the dinner this year.

The first Lexington Farmers Market for the 2020 season will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 23 under the pavilion at the Lexington Municipal Building and will be held every other Saturday until Oct. 17. New guidelines are in place this year. All vendors and customers must wear masks and gloves. The number of customers shopping at the same time will be regulated and social distancing maintained. No dogs will be allowed. No public restrooms will be available. There will be produce, mushrooms, baked goods, meat, eggs, beer from West Kill Brewing and more. Please come support the local vendors.

The Lexington Mission Blessing Box is open to all. Please take what you need and if you can, leave something for others. The Blessing Box is located next to the Lexington Mission Church across the street from the Lexington Post Office.

Greene County Department of Human Services Senior Nutrition Program for the week of May 25 – May 29 is as follows: Monday—Memorial Day—All senior nutrition sites and main office closed; Tuesday—Eggplant Parmesan, spaghetti, Italian green beans, fruit cocktail; Wednesday—Birthday Lunch—Pork chop and apricots, braised cabbage, scalloped potato, birthday cupcake; Thursday—Crab topped cod, rice pilaf, fresh green salad with red beans, broccoli, pineapple chunks; Friday—Cook’s Choice—Fresh salad, cauliflower, fresh fruit. All persons 60 and older and spouses are invited to participate. Suggested donation is $4 per meal. Please call at least a day in advance to reserve your meal. Meals are available for pick up only, no meals served indoors at the Mountain Top Senior Service Center that is located at the Jewett Municipal Building, Route 23C, 518-263-4392. Meals on Wheels program is continuing.

The annual Strawberry Supper scheduled for June 12 at the Lexington/West Kill UMC has been canceled.

For those of you of a “certain age,” remember when you were asked at the checkout if you wanted the senior discount and you weren’t quite old enough yet? Then comes the day when you are handed the senior menu or the cashier doesn’t even ask you and gives you the discount automatically?

Every week we thank all those individuals who are on the front lines keeping us safe, the shelves stocked, the health care workers, doctors, nurses, caregivers, law enforcement, firefighters, the military, farmers, teachers, postal employees, pharmacies, truck drivers, custodians and so many more.

Please be respectful, courteous, considerate and kind. We need to care and think about each other.

Memorial Day is observed on May 25. Let us honor, pay respect and never forget.
