What has happened to the niceties of life? The neighbor who is going to the store calling and asking if you need anything? A hand written thank you note? The younger helping the elders without being told? Is it really acceptable to send a text to grandma announcing an important occasion in your life? A picture for your Christmas card without someone making funny faces. When we sat down to eat, everyone ate together, and ate the same food. My mother, and for that matter me, didn’t run a diner where everyone ate at their leisure or asked for something else because they didn’t want what was being served. We never said YUK to the food placed on our plate. We ate it and hoped that it was never served again. When I go to the diner and see teens order plates of food then take two bites and throw it away, it breaks my heart. I hope we learn what manners and respect are, or how is society going to continue?
