Wilfred James “Bill” Lampman

Wilfred James Lampman

Wilfred James “Bill” Lampman, 89, of W. Coxsackie passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

Beloved husband of Helen J. Lampman for 63 years. Loving father, mentor and friend to his children Lorna Patterson of Selkirk, NY, William Lampman of Earlton, NY and James Lampman of Lynchburg, VA. He was a grandfather of seven, and great grandfather of six. Born in Leeds, as a young man “Bill” enjoyed working on the family farm in Cairo, NY and was active in the local 4-H Club, where in 1944 he received an award for raising and releasing the most pheasants in NY State.

A Veteran of the US Army Active Reserve and the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1956, he served his country during the Korean War. His military service brought him to seven US States and 13 countries as an Infantryman and then an Airborne Radio Operator on a C-47 Skytrain aircraft. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the USAF. After his military service, he became a successful entrepreneur who founded and ran E&W Lampman Builders for more than 50 years. He employed several of his brothers, and together they built and renovated hundreds of homes in the greater Albany area. He was proficient in design, architecture, engineering, planning, site development, estimating, construction, sales, marketing, and business management as he handled all aspects of the business from his home office, usually working late into the night. A lifelong learner, he earned his Associate in Applied Science degree from Columbia-Greene Community College in 1992, was a licensed Private Pilot, Real Estate Broker, and could oftentimes be found reading from an encyclopedia just for the joy of learning. Seems there was nothing he didn’t know or couldn’t figure out.

Bill had a love of building, and after a full workday would usually visit one of his children’s homes, often initiating yet another home improvement project. He was never too busy or too tired, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help. He also enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and taught them whenever and whatever he could.

Bill also loved taking annual trips to the ocean with his wife Helen, hunting, fishing, flying, playing ice hockey, working at his church, home improvements, woodworking, communicating around the world via Ham radio, and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Grapeville Baptist Church, Ridge Runner and Circle 8 Square Dance clubs. He remains an inspiration to his family who will strive to carry on his legacy of love, patience, humor, honesty, generosity, wisdom, and caring for others. He was a great example to us all. His charm, quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Military honors and committal prayers will be conducted at Town of Catskill Cemetery on Tuesday, November 23rd at 1:45 pm. Funeral arrangements by Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. Messages of condolence may be made to MillspaughCamerato.com.
