Stephen “Shump” Shumsky, 88, of Stottville, died Monday February 1, 2021 at Albany Medical Center due to complications from Covid.

Born May 5, 1932 in Stuyvesant, he is the son of Mary (Zukowski) and Frank Shumsky. He married the love of his life, Shirley Dallas on May 5, 1957, and they shared 63 wonderful years together.

Shump attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson, followed by a 3 year apprenticeship at GE Schenectady. In 1954 he became a member of Albany Ironworkers Local -12, and worked there until his retirement several years ago. He was an active member of The Church of St. Joseph in Stottville for over 60 years. A Life Member of HW Rogers Hose Co. for 69 years, he was the oldest living member until his death. Following his retirement he was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf with his buddies. He even has 3 greens built in his back yard. Shirley and Shump were fanatical about attending their grandchildren’s games, and never missed any of them. As a sports enthusiast, he coached the VFW Little League team in Stottville for 11 years, many of his players remember him well. He and Shirley traveled extensively for several of their retirement years. Shump was a huge Red Sox fan, but most of all he loved his family and enjoyed family outings and just being together. Shump was a fiercely loyal friend to all that knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

Shump’s memory will be cherished by his wife Shirley, sons Timothy James Shumsky and wife Jennifer Connor Shumsky, Thomas Jay Shumsky and partner Terry Rivenburgh, grandchildren Stephanie Lee Hunt and husband Stewart, Jeffrey Shumsky (Shannon), TJ Shumsky and Alexis Connor Shumsky, also great grandchildren Emily Shumsky, Owen Shumsky and Zachary Hunt. Also surviving are a brother Frank Shumsky and wife Mary Lou, and brother in law Glenn Dallas and wife Madolyn.

Graveside services will be announced in the spring. Memorial contributions in Shump’s name may be made to the Church of St. Joseph 1829 Rte 9 Stuyvesant, NY 12173, or The Reformed Dutch Church Drawer K Claverack, NY
