Randall “Randy” Fried, 71, of Earlton passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021.
A life-long Catskill-area resident, he was born in Albany. His idyllic Catskill youth included meeting and greeting various friends, characters, and merchants on a thriving Main Street; swimming at Slippery Rock in summer; and sledding down the Irving School hill in winter. Randy often said that his own childhood marked the last of the best times to be a kid.
Randy graduated from Catskill High School in 1967, Babson College in 1971with a B.A. in business, and Suffolk University in 1972 with an MBA. In the late 1970s, Randy founded Curton Industries in Catskill to develop and manufacture vinyl environmental barriers, with applications ranging from pet doors to airplane hangars, from welding enclosures to laboratory clean rooms, shipping products to customers both domestically and internationally..
In retirement Randy added a second home on the island of St. Maarten, where he spent winters (since the Irving School hill was no longer suitable for sledding).
Randy now leaves behind his mom, Mrs. Eleanor Fried, and brother, Dennis, both in Sarasota, Florida, and legions of friends and extended family who will miss his friendship, generosity of spirit, and moderately twisted sense of humor.
There will be a tribute to Randy on May 3rd from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Creekside Restaurant on West Main St., Catskill. Call or text Jerry at 518-821-0324 to reserve as space is limited. If you have any pictures, please let Jerry know.
