Nicholas Paul Mossman

Mossman

Nicholas Paul Mossman, 63, of Philmont, passed away April 29, 2021 at Ghent Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born on May 3, 1957 in Hudson to Philip and Marie Mossman both who have predeceased him. His nine-year battle with many health issues has finally ended and he has found peace.

Nick served in the United States Air Force from 1977 – 1983 upon which he received an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed his time in Alaska and loved to share stories about his adventures there especially fishing for salmon. Nick was very interested in hunting, fishing and sports. He was an avid NY Yankees and Miami Dolphins fan. Nick was a former Justice of the Peace for the Village of Philmont, and volunteer fireman in Mellenville. He was employed for many years at Columbia Beer (Topper’s) in Greenport and his last employer Gro Max in Mellenville until his health issues precluded him from working.

Nick is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Lillian Cutler (Ed Johnson), Philip Mossman (Malia), Paul Mossman (Christine), and Ann Marie Mann (Corey). He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Jennifer Morra (Paul), Matthew Cutler (Kim), Beth DeMatteo (James), Mark Mossman, Jonathan Mossman (Jacob Mazza), Kari Mann (Justin Bogardus), and Corey Mann Jr. In addition, he was the great uncle to Jacob Morra, Jourdan Cutler, and Evan and Allyson DeMatteo. He is also survived by his aunt, Pearl Mossman, and many cousins.

Nick’s family would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to the staff members at Ghent Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center and the Columbia-Greene Dialysis Center for their patience, wonderful professional care, and friendships they provided to him over the many years. Those who knew Nick were exposed to his “rough and sarcastic” attitude but also came to realize and appreciate his warm heart.

A graveside service will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Philmont on Thursday May 6 at 11:00 am.

Donations in Nick’s memory may be made to the Mellenville-Philmont Food Pantry, PO Box V, Mellenville, NY 12544, or the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 111 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534.
