Nicholas J. Scalera

Nicholas J. Scalera, 89, of Hudson, NY, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Ghent RNC. Born September 4, 1932 in Hudson, NY, he is the son of Andrea Scalera and Michelina (Russo) Scalera. He worked at and retired from, IBM, Kingston, NY. Nick was a devoted and loving family man. He enjoyed playing sports, fishing, participating in local dart leagues, and most notably, was a table tennis champion. Nick won numerous trophies while serving in the U.S. Air Force, when stationed in Okinawa, Japan and throughout his career. He was also involved with the Hudson Little League and helped coach the St. Mary’s Boys CYO Basketball Team in the late 1960’s early 1970’s. He will be forever remembered for his trademark unlit cigar in his mouth. Nick was a member of the Hudson Elks -787, American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Survived and forever loved by his daughters, Theresa (Mark) Eckel of Claverack, Karen (Tim) Warchol of Livingston and Son-In-Law, Thomas Merante. Grandchildren, Nicholas (Kelsea) Warchol, Thomas (T.J.) Merante and Fiancée Meghan Parmentier, Jon (Lauren) Merante and Chris Merante (Emily Halnon). Great Grandchild, Luca Merante and his brother due April, 2022, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Step-Grandchildren, Don (Tonya) Moore, Donna (Steve) Ringwood and Kim (Paul) Van Allen and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Umeko “Amy” (Hosaka) Scalera and daughter, Donna Merante. Also, brothers Generino, Tony, John , Carlo and sisters Rose, Liz, Fannie, Lena, Frances, Josie and Anna. Funeral services will be Thursday October 14, at 11:00am from the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Visitation hours prior to the funeral service will be from 9:00am-11:00. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Meals on Wheels or Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene.
