Mildred “Joy”ce Mayo

Joy Mayo of Coxsackie NY passed away unexpectedly on Friday Sept. 3, 2021. She was surrounded with family and God at her side. Joy was pre deceased by her parents, Arden and Ora Fletcher, sister Joan Smith, Husband of 56 years, Earl Mayo, and grandson Alan Stevens.

She is survived by her son, Terrance ( Theresa ) Mayo, Siblings Marion ( Jerry ) Rhyne, and David ( Sue ) Fletcher, Grandchildren Stephen and Heidi, Dan, andTim. Great Grandchildren Destin, Sierra, Nicolae, Amelia Joy, and Lily. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she communicated with frequently.

Joy will be missed not only by her family, but by the friends she has lived near for over 50+years, friends at church, friends from school, students who grew up, and her entire community. She taught 3rd grade elementary in Ravena, NY for 28 years until she retired. Joy had 2 Masters Degrees, one in Business and one in Science. After retirement she traveled, volunteered for meals on wheels, church functions, the Book Nook, tutored students at the library, and volunteered at library. She also went back to school for a new talent. Clown School. Somehow, she found time to fill out sweepstake cards and win Amazing prizes. She didn’t just win for herself, many in her circle of family and friends enjoyed her winnings.

Church service will be held at Coxsackie United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept 19th at 2pm. Masks and social distancing for church service. Memorial to follow service at QWL Bldg 417 Plank Rd County Rt 9, Coxsackie.
