Mary Helen Sacco

Sacco, Mary Helen, 82, of Germantown NY (formerly of Hudson NY) passed peacefully on to her next adventure on October 1, 2020.

Helen was also known in the community as Nana, leaving memorable impressions on all those she encountered. Helen was a prolific artist in oils, watercolors, acrylics, sculpture, photography, and tile work. Helen was born in New York City and lived in several locations throughout the state during her childhood. She graduated from Delhi Academy and married Louis Nicholas Sacco on August 15, 1957 in Oneonta, N.Y. The couple then moved to Columbia County to begin their family and eventually established and ran Columbia Automatic Transmissions, Inc. in Hudson, N.Y. After raising her 5 children Helen took on new responsibilities, attending Columbia-Greene Community College, working at the Columbia County Board of Elections, then as Executive Director of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce where she was instrumental in implementing the “I Love NY” campaign.

Helen’s focus was always her family, art, and community service. She was owner and curator of Dove Cottage Artists. Helen was a lifelong member of the Hudson Power Boat Association and spent many wonderful years with her family, boating and camping on the Hudson River. Helen was an avid volunteer in many community organizations including the PTA, Greenport Pumper No.3 Auxiliary, Clermont State Park Board of Directors, Germantown and Hudson Public Libraries, Germantown Central School, Germantown After School Program, Germantown Lions Club, Cub Scouts den 101, Hudson Athens Light House, Clarion Music Society, Leaf Peeper Concert Series, Tivoli Artists Co-op, Athens Artist Co-op and she was a Friend of Bill and made the program after 32 years of selfless service.

Predeceased by her parents Mary and Charles McBride, her husband of 30 years Louis Sacco, and her brother John McBride. She is survived by her children: Susan Brown (Mark) of Germantown, J Lotus of Germantown, Nicolette Sacco-Brown (Roy) of Germantown, Louis Sacco (Kathleen) of Craryville, David A Sacco (Lisa) of Kinderhook, grandchildren: Spencer, Caitlin, Emily, Claire, Collin, Laura, Jayne, Casey, Deven, Nicholas, Samantha, Leandro, Grant, and Geneva, great-grandchildren: Mason, Ruby, Sawyer, Ophelia, Lumin, Juniper, Theo and Brody, brother Charles McBride, sisters Susan Salem, Marjorie Harrington, Cathy Maggiore,Barbara Ward, and sisters in law Catherine McBride and Vecenza Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, 10:00 am at St Mary’s Church/Trinity Parish, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson, NY.
