Mary E. Meacher

Mary E. Meacher, beloved Mother, Nana, and friend to all, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021. She was 89. Mary was born December 17, 1931 in Hudson, first-born daughter to Robert E. Sackett and Henrietta Mary Sobocinski. Mary graduated from Hudson High School and received her RN from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing in 1950. She married her husband, John, in 1952. Mary and John spent their lives together doing the things they loved-hosting family and friends poolside at their homes in Germantown, camping, gardening, and travelling to Hawaii and Maine. Mary was well known for her beautiful gardens, cooking, and baking. Her Polish food was unmatched. Mary served the community in numerous nursing administrative roles and was known for her kindness and generosity in all aspects of her life. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church and maintained the gardens there for years. She was also a member of the Germantown Garden Club, Red Hat Society, and was a founding member of the Northern Boulevard Walking Club. Besides her husband John, who passed away in 2018, she was also pre-deceased by her son, James, and her 4 siblings-Robert, Roberta, Janice and Jeanne. Mary was a true Matriarch and is survived by her son, John Meacher Jr. of Germantown, and daughters Melanie Wynne of Poughkeepsie and Maureen A. Meacher of Catskill. She was an adoring Nana to 13 grandchildren-Richard, Robert (Laci), Jason (Tracey), Carrie, Lauren (Erik), Dorothy, Anne (Tatton), Rachel (Timothy), Laura, Thomas, Andrew (Carla), Amie, and John. Mary was also Nana to 13 great-grandchildren.A Mass and celebration of Mary’s life will be held on November 27th at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson at 10 am, with interment following in Germantown. Arrangements are with Bates & Anderson Funeral Home.
