Mary C. (Policastro) Westman

Mary C. (Policastro) Westman, 84, of Lexington, NY passed away peacefully in her home on September 11, 2020 after a long illness. Mary was born on November 19, 1935 in Queens, NY. She was the Daughter of the late George Policastro and Carmella LaPolla. Her beloved Husband, Ronald, of 65 years, predeceased her very recently on August 13, 2020. She now joins him in Eternal Life.

Mary married the love of her life, Ronald J. Westman, Sr., on June 19, 1955, during his service in the U.S. Army. After he was honorably discharged from the US Army, they moved to Long Island, NY where they started their family. In the late 1980’s they moved their family to Lexington, NY, fulfilling Mary’s lifelong dream to live in the mountains.

Mary was a Homemaker, Home Health Care Aid and CNA. Mary had many hobbies including cooking, baking, gardening, camping, and traveling. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to attend her Grandchildren’s school events, sports, music, and dance performances. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls, where she volunteered her time as a Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education Teacher, and Bingo.

Mary is survived by her three Daughters; Joanne Noone (James), Anne Marie Phelan (Darin), and Debora Anne Kappel (Justin). She is also survived by three Grandchildren, Melissa Anne Phelan, Private First Class, Eric J. Kappel (US Army), and Allyson M. Kappel; and two Step-Grandchildren, Kirstyn and Kaitlyn Peterson. Mary is also survived by two Brothers, Alfred Policastro and Richard Policastro. Mary leaves behind many Nieces, Nephews, God Children, Cousins, and her dog Patches. Besides her Mother, Father, and Husband, Mary was predeceased by her Son, Ronald J. Westman Jr.; Son-in-law, Glenn E. Phelan; and Brothers, George Policastro and Anthony Policastro.

Calling hours will be at Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main Street, Hunter, NY, 12442 on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Services will be conducted at 12:00 pm at the Funeral Home on September 21, 2020. A private Mass for immediate family will take place at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haines Falls, NY with Rev. Jay J. Atherton officiating, on Monday, September 21, 2020. Burial will be at the Lexington Cemetery. (Appropriate face coverings will be required due to COVID-19 Regulations). In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to the Town of Lexington Ladies Auxiliary.
