Margaret A. Chaloner, age 85, of Coxsackie, died January 8, 2020 in Olathe, Kansas. She was born March 12, 1934, in Coxsackie, NY and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Ruth E. (Donnelly) Houghtaling.

Margaret Ann as she was known by her high school friends or Marge was a lifelong resident of Coxsackie moving to Olathe, Kansas in 2017. She graduated from Coxsackie-Athens High School class of 1951. She later attended and graduated from Union College School of Nursing.

She worked at the Catskill Hospital and Albany Medical Center for a short time before deciding to stay home and raise her children. Marge loved her hometown of Coxsackie and was an active member of her community. She served on the Greene County Hospital Board of Managers, the Hudson Valley Girl Scout Board of Directors. She was a member of the World War 2 Memorial, the Hendrick Hudson Daughters of the American Revolution, the NYS Cleaner Hudson Committee, the NYS Historians, the Greene County Historians, the Coxsackie Garden Club, the Village of Coxsackie Park Commission, the Red Cross and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Not only was Marge a two-term trustee of the Village of Coxsackie she was also the first female Mayor of the Village of Coxsackie.

Besides her parents, Marge is predeceased by her husband Robert G. Chaloner, M.D., who passed away on February 27, 2009. She is survived by her son Robert S. Chaloner and his husband Oscar Mandes of East Hampton, Deborah Chaloner (Edward Planco) of Olathe, Kansas, Claudia L. and her husband Dr. Thomas Bruno of Athens, Jennifer R. and her husband Gavin Clark of Hannacroix. One brother John Aaron Houghtaling and his wife Diane of Port St. Lucie, Fl. One of Marge’s greatest joys were her grandchildren, Emily Chaloner Haan (Justin), Zachary Chaloner, Thomas, Gregory (Megan) and Sarah Bruno, Myles and Matthew Clark and two great grandchildren Caleb and August Haan.

Marge was loved by her community and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, NY 12051 on Tuesday January 14, 2020, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Mass will be held Wednesday January 15, 2020 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 107 State Street, Albany, N.Y. 12207, at 10:00 A.M. with Father Paul Hart Rector officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Riverside Cemetery Coxsackie, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marge’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 107 State St., Albany, NY 12207.Condolences may be made at www.wcbradyssonsinc.net.
