BIEGEL, Lawrence G. (aka Lester Gass), 67, of Cornwallville, passed away on Jan. 21, 2020.

Larry graduated from the Rutgers University School of Environmental Science. He began his career as a Planner at the Greene County Planning Department in Cairo then moved to the NYSDEC as an Environmental Analyst in New Paltz. He was instrumental in promoting passage of the NYS bottle law in 1982. In retirement, Larry continued to be an avid environmentalist and ornithologist. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and taxidermy. These passions taught us all how to enjoy and care for our environment and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Larry is survived by wife Sharon, mother Grace Biegel, mother-in-law Marilyn Quirk, stepdaughter Lisa Hocking, grandson Jeremy Patrick Monington, stepdaughter Rebecca Hocking, grandsons Mason Anthony Colao and Vincent Xavier Colao, stepson Justin Hocking, granddaughters Brianna, Kayleigh and Hannah Hocking, brother Ron Biegel and Lynne, nephews Jason, Jeffrey (Godson) and niece Victoria, sister Sharon Stallone and Joseph, nephew Michael and niece Lauren (Goddaughter), sister-in-law Carola Engelmann, nieces Christie, Carra, Carly, Caytie, and nephew Michael, sister-in-law Joan VanDenburgh and John(Jr), nephews John, Joesph, Justin, Richard, and Ryan, sister-in-law Mary Hans, nephews TJ, Adam, niece Nicole, sister-in law Darlene Shamus, nieces Jamie, Mariya, Roxanne, Amanda, Reneé, Ariel and nephews James and Joshua, brother-in-law John Quirk and Suzanne, niece Mackenzie, sister-in law Jenny Wright and Greg, and his beloved dog Oscar. Larry is pre-deceased by his father Victor and father-in-law John.

A private memorial gathering will be held in the spring.
