Laura C. Shufelt

Laura C. Shufelt, age 85 years, of Coxsackie, N.Y. passed away on October 18, 2021 at Ghent Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Ghent, N.Y.

Besides her parents, Laura is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years William J. Shufelt who passed away on February 14, 2018.

During Laura’s lifetime, she was a graduate of The Coxsackie Athens High School, Class of 1953, and she also studied at Wagner College for Nursing. Laura was employed for over twenty years at The N.Y.S. Tax and Finance, retiring after twenty years.

Laura was a member of The First Lutheran Church and The Zion Lutheran Church, holding two positions at Zion as President of “LCW” and also the Choir.

She was an accomplished seamstress and gourmet cook. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Tamar (Greg Backus) Dara (Joseph Cunliffe). Also surviving are her sisters Mary Conrad and Nelta Beojeckian and her brother Perry Peloubet, sister in law Kay Lasher, her grandchildren Elizabeth (Chris Bridley), Wally Backus, Alexandrea Backus (Hans Schmidt), Chadham Backus and his finace’ Jessica Traficante) Erin (Jason Wyld), Erik Cunliffe, great grandchildren Corrine, Abigail and Theodore Brindley, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at The W. C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, N.Y. on Monday, October 25, 2021, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held the same day at the funeral home at 12:30 P.M. Interment will follow in the family plot, next to her late husband William, of The Chatham Rural Cemetery, Chatham, N.Y. Condolences may be made at
